Established 1854 as Hebrew Benevolent Society to provide funeral services and charity. Merged with Ladies' Hebrew Benevolent Society in 1916 forming the Jewish Aid Society. In 1929 renamed Jewish Social Service Bureau. Changed name to Jewish Family Service of Los Angeles in 1946. Records of the JPS.
